MEET Chris Santamaria
Owner & Coach
I started the name Crushing Limits over 10 years ago or more. I had IBS from 20 years old to 30 which was manageable then it really took a turn for the worse. Five years ago i was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis, something i wouldn't wish upon anyone! Colitis is basically a condition where you get so much inflammation in your intestines that ulcers form to where you can not absorb any of the food you eat. I had just competed in a couple of shows and went out for breakfast the next morning didnt eat too much and then it started. I couldn't stay out of the restroom. I figured it was just the post show blues. Far from it. I went into work monday, and had to leave early. I ended up missing most the week at work and started getting severe cramps on sunday night. I went into Urgent care and they ran what seemed to be a million tests on me. They sent me home with a diagnosis of severe Ulcerative colitis and put me on a couple different medications. Within 2 days i started to get even worse. I could barely eat, and barely walk around. I was getting so weak. I called my dad who is a doctor and he said ok we are coming to get you. My parents rushed up to get me. I literally could not get out of bed without help. Both my mom and dad had to carry me to the car. They drove me down to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester where they ran a million more tests on me. After 7 days the surgeon met with me and told me that if this medication didnt work, they would most likely have to remove my colon the next day. That was horrifying for me. The next day they found a tiny bit of improvement and sent me home. I went from a contest ready 192lb onstage to literally losing everything. In 8 days in the hospital, i lost 30lb exactly. I had lost a few as i got worse, but when i got out of the hospital i weighed 153lb with clothes on!!! I looked literally like i had never lifted a weight in my life. Physically it was very painful but it couldn't compare to the mental pain knowing my life would never be the same again.I was put on bed rest for a month and told i was "unfit" to work. Even though I'm so positive and driven, it was hard to look at things and not get depressed. I thought was this the end for me? Would I ever compete again? Would I ever look like I even worked out again? Then one day it just hit me. I wasn't going out like this. This was not the end of me. I decided I would beat this at all odds.
After months of not being able to eat properly or lift at all I stepped foot in the gym. My first day back I could NOT squat just the bar, yes you read that right; for more than 5 reps!!! It was scary to say the least. But each day I chipped away meal by meal rep by rep until one year later I had put on the whole 50lb I had lost, and went on to win an Overall title at the Irongames in California. I beat all the odds. I received tons and tons of messages along the way and support that it was overwhelming. It was so amazing that people believe in me and wanted me to do so well. People would even call to check in on me and make sure I was doing ok i was so humbled and blessed that I had so much support. It was pretty emotional sitting in that hospital bed; and I never would have imagined in a million years that someday I would be featured in Muscular Development and Flex magazine but That is what can happen if you never stop believing. I've said it before, the trophies are nice but it's the relationships that I have built along the way that make it all worth it. This couldn't be more true today as well. I still suffer from this daily but you'll never hear me complain. I don't do this for the money as many of you know I have a full time career in sales. I do this because I absolutely love it, and I love Changing people's lives. The biggest thing for me Is I believe in all my clients and if I can help someone believe in themselves, they will unlock the doors of doubt and discover unlimited potential. No matter what you're going through in life or in fitness, always believe.
This is what Crushing Limits is all about. Nothing can stop you.
MEET Stephanie Santamaria, IFBB PRO
Partner & Coach
Stephanie began her first figure competition prep June 2015 on a wild whim to challenge herself. While she was never much of an athlete growing up, Stephanie became interested in health and fitness in her early 30’s. She starting with a little MMA style training then moved into weightlifting and quickly developed a passion for the gym. Stephanie obtained her CPT certification through NASM July 2015. When the idea of competing in an NPC show was mentioned to her Stephanie laughed at the idea, but thought ‘what the heck. I’ll try it.’ Stephanie fell in love with the structure, challenges and process of competition prep.
Stephanie’s first show was NPC Med City in September 2015, followed by NPC Northstar October 2015.
